The following maps icons are the POI (place of interest) type of markers on Google Maps.
Pinlets can range in colour, based on the place type and the searcher’s query. The colours you can see these markers in includes grey, green, red, pink, blue, teal, purple and orange.
Regular pinlets are the drop shape, promoted places are usually orange and square.

Iconic Points of Interest
These are the most interesting and fun to find. These are what Google has classed as an iconic location, and rather than give it an ordinary marker, or photo-opportunity marker, they’ve gone through the trouble of designing something special.
These are custom-made icons specifically for that one particular point of interest.
They always show in shades of grey, and they resemble the design of the place they’re indicating.
