Get Your Local Business Mobile Friendly in 2015

published: 28 January, 2015 · updated: 25 December, 2019

Is your local business mobile-friendly yet? If not, you could be missing out on consumers without even knowing it. Over the holidays, I personally came upon a prime example of why having your business website mobile friendly is so important.

I had decided to get the kids out of the house for a bit to blow off some energy. I eagerly searched my phone looking for a place to take them and my phone search comes up with this:

mobile friendlynon-mobile friendly

This is clearly a signal from Google – they want local business to get on board with mobile-friendly. And they want it because it’s what they need to give their searchers a better experience. Google has seen a 400% increase in the number of searches on mobile devices. And G’s searchers are your potential customers.

But what about Aussies? Let’s go beyond Google and just get down to basics why you really need to get serious about having a mobile friendly website.

Getting your business into mobile allows you to take full advantage of how consumers are increasingly using their mobile devices to buy services and products. Not only that, being seen on the mobile web gives your customers and potential customers 24/7 exposure to your services and increases your chances of building integrity between your customers and business.

ACMA came out with some staggering stats showing that Aussies are hungry for more internet and mobile just continues to grow:

  • 50% of consumers do 5+ activities online
  • 97% of downloads are mobile downloads vs. 53% all data downloads
  • Older mobiles are being pushed out by smartphones to the tune of over 12 million users
  • 76% of consumers go online with a mobile phone

A previous Google Mobile Movement Study showed that 88% of consumers who search for a type of local business on a mobile device call or go to that business within 24 hours. That’s over 8 out of 10 people taking action within 24 hours of completing a local mobile search. Think of all the lost chances, lost conversions, and lost repeat customers you are missing out on simply by not being mobile-friendly!
